BSc + MSc program in Geosciences & Environment
Unlock the secrets of our planet's subsoil to meet the challenges of energy, natural resources, water management, and land use planning while respecting the environment.
The training program
The Geology and Environment engineering program is open to students who have completed two years of pre-engineering studies.
It is structured around four main stages:
- Semester 5: Go LaSalle, your first international experience starting in the first semester
- If you are admitted through parallel admission, you will instead take refresher courses
- Semester 6: One semester of core courses in your specialization, dedicated to geosciences
- Semesters 7 to 9: 3 semesters in the professional track of your choice, including a 4-month internship as an “assistant engineer”
- The last semester of the professional track can be completed at a partner university in France or abroad as part of an exchange semester, a dual degree program, or a degree-granting program.
- Semester 10: The final project, based on an internship in a company or a research internship for students, or on a long period in a company for students following an apprenticeship program.
- It leads to the writing of a final thesis and an oral defense.
More than five months of your course are devoted to observing and understanding the landscapes around you, in different geological contexts, from Brittany to the Alps, from Spain to Italy. The analytical and adaptability skills you will acquire through inductive teaching methods will equip you for a career in key sectors of the global economy, from energy to land use planning, from the environment to mineral resources, both in France and internationally.
Semester 5 - Go LaSalle (except for parallel admissions)
If you are a graduate of the integrated preparatory program in Earth, Life, and Environmental Sciences, you will have the opportunity to study abroad through the Go LaSalle program.
This first international experience can take the form of a study abroad program or an internship.

Twenty partner universities in the Lasallian network located around the world welcome you during the first semester of the engineering program, allowing you to discover a different study environment.
Semesters 7 to 9 - The Professional track
The last two years of the MSc in Geosciences & Environment are devoted to specialization courses.
The Professional track takes place over three semesters and is made up of majors and minors that enable you to personalize your curriculum according to your desires and projects.
It is completed at the end of semester 8 (end of 4th year) by a 4-month “assistant engineer” internship, which will give you hands-on experience of professional practice.
In the MSc in Geosciences & Environment, you can choose from three professional tracks, all offered on the Beauvais campus.
Semester 7
Major - 24 ECTS credits
- 240 hours of core courses, specialized courses (scientific, technical, and humanities and social sciences)
- 150 hours of project work related to the major, in line with business needs
Minor - 6 ECTS credits
- 108 hours (2 blocks of 54 hours)
Semester 8
Major - 18 ECTS credits
- 190 hours of classes
- 130 hours of project work
Minor - 6 ECTS credits

Assistant engineer internship (4 months)
Carried out at the end of 4th year, the assistant engineer internship involves carrying out technical and operational assignments within a company or institutional organization.
Students are placed in a situation of autonomy: they familiarize themselves with the internship issues, are confronted with professional practice (adaptability, analytical skills, rigor in carrying out tasks, interpersonal skills), with a view to developing their personal and professional skills.
The following will be taken into account when assessing this internship
- the approach adopted in the search for an internship,
- adaptability (methods, tools, internal processes),
- ability to take a step back from the work carried out during the internship.
Semester 10 - Final year internship (6 months)
The final and decisive stage of engineering training at UniLaSalle, the final year internship enables students to experience a pre-professional situation in which they will have to respond to a problem posed by an organization. It is an essential part of the curriculum, and enables the jury to decide whether or not to award the engineering diploma.
It enables students to :
- become familiar with professional practice,
- develop personally and professionally,
- demonstrate their skills,
- facilitate integration into the profession.
The student/apprentice validates certain notions acquired in the academic context, grasping their meaning, scope and limits. The trainee/apprentice also has the opportunity to develop management skills, listening, communication and teamwork skills. They carry out concrete projects. Professional practice brings valuable expertise to the student/apprentice at the start of his or her career.
The internship leads to the writing and oral presentation of a final dissertation.
The Geology and Environment engineering program includes at least one mandatory four-month international stay through the Go-LaSalle program. For students entering the program through parallel admission, this stay at a Lasallian university is replaced by courses and an eight-week internship abroad.
Students can add a second international experience in the final year of the engineering program, in the form of a semester, a double degree, or a degree-granting stay at a partner university.
Double degree and dual degree programs
Longer than a single semester of study, double degree and dual degree programs offer a unique experience:
- at a university that has an agreement with UniLaSalle or at a university that does not have an agreement or partnership (upon the student's recommendation)
- allows you to obtain two degrees: one from the host university and one from UniLaSalle
- 12 to 24 months depending on the host university
Some examples of host universities:
- Imperial College de Londres (United Kingdom)
- Cranfield University (United Kingdom)
- Wageningen University (Netherlands)
- Universitat de Barcelona (Spain)
- Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (Canada)
